Megan Mance, AMFT
Therapy for autistic men rooted in real understanding, practical tools, and radical respect.
I’m not just trained to work with neurodivergent individuals—I am neurodivergent.
I discovered my own autism later in life, after years of trying to “fit in,” decode social dynamics, and push through burnout without knowing why I was so overwhelmed by things others seemed to handle easily.
It wasn’t until adulthood that I took our full battery of autism screeners—and that’s when everything clicked.
Realizing I was autistic helped me make sense of a lifetime of sensory sensitivity, communication mismatches, deep empathy, and emotional fatigue. That realization didn’t just give me answers—it gave me direction.
Today, I help autistic men find clarity and connection—in life, in relationships, and within themselves.

💬 Therapy for Autistic Men: Why It’s Different—and Why It Matters
Many autistic men have spent their lives feeling like outsiders. Misunderstood. Told to “man up,” “stop overthinking,” or “just be more flexible.”
You may have masked your differences, buried your emotions, and learned to perform what the world expects… only to end up anxious, exhausted, and disconnected.
If that sounds familiar, I want you to know: there’s nothing wrong with you. And therapy doesn’t have to be about fixing you—it can be about understanding you, and building a life that works for you instead of against you.
In therapy, we can explore:
-
Social fatigue and the pressure to mask
-
Emotional shutdowns and meltdowns
-
Relationship struggles, especially around communication and intimacy
-
Navigating work stress and executive functioning challenges
-
Loneliness, isolation, or trouble “fitting in”
-
Identifying needs, setting boundaries, and advocating for yourself
-
Processing past trauma, bullying, or shame
-
Learning how to express emotion without judgment
I won’t pathologize your experience—I’ll help you map it, understand it, and work with it.
👩⚕️ Why a Woman Can Be the Right Therapist for an Autistic Man
For some men, working with a woman in therapy can feel easier, safer, or less performative—especially when it comes to vulnerability and emotional expression.
A woman therapist may be less likely to expect stereotypical "masculine" ways of being and more attuned to the emotional nuances that men aren’t always encouraged to share.
As an autistic woman myself, I bring empathy and emotional insight without judgment.
I also understand the way gendered expectations and neurodivergent experiences can intersect—often in subtle but powerful ways.
I’ll support you in showing up exactly as you are, without needing to posture, explain, or perform.
🧘♂️ Practical Tools, Not Just Talk
I bring both compassion and structure to therapy.
We’ll talk, yes—but we’ll also build a toolkit you can actually use. That might include co-regulation strategies, sensory awareness techniques, relationship skills, and mind-body tools for managing stress and overwhelm.
As a Certified Health Coach and practitioner of yoga and meditation, I often bring somatic (body-based) awareness into our work—not in a “new age” way, but in a grounded, practical way that helps you stay regulated and present when things get intense.
🔍 Autism & ADHD Assessments for Men
I also offer in-depth autism and ADHD assessments for adult men who are exploring whether they may be neurodivergent.
Many men come to me after years of feeling “off” or “too much” or “not enough.” They may have been mislabeled, misdiagnosed, or dismissed.
If you’ve always suspected you might be autistic or have ADHD—or if a partner, child, or recent life experience has opened your eyes to that possibility—an assessment can help you better understand how your brain works and why certain things feel so hard.
Getting answers doesn’t mean you’re broken. It means you finally have a guidebook.
